Leadership from a Special Forces Perspective

Leaders and their teams within Special Forces are highly motivated and effective at what they do. The limits are set extremely high. Their commitment and performance go hand in hand, with high psychological pressure and threats to life. Not everyone is able to reach that high level. Special Forces are unique in that respect.
Leading people in a Special Forces unit is based on the concept of “leading from the front.” The leader is the driving force that sets the direction. He has strategic thinking. He sees the big picture. He is a key link in the chain of command. There is no place for excuses and absolving oneself of responsibility. There is simply no time for that. There’s room for only one thing and one thing only and that is – LEADERSHIP.

There are tactical principles within Special Forces – the laws of combat. Understanding them is crucial to team performance. Applying these principles under difficult conditions allows the leader to effectively lead his team. The principles are simple, but not easy.

These principles work everywhere. Even in places where one would not expect it. High performing teams exist in other areas of life or business. And they are very similar to those in special forces. The principles are always valid and can be applied, by any person in a leadership position. Wherever there is a need to lead people. Time and place do not play a role.
